Wine
Mount Majura Vineyard Little Dam Tempranillo is grown on the shallow, rocky soils of the winery’s Little Dam Block. The soil is rich in the iron mineral magnetite to the point that some small pebbles will stick to a magnet.
The vineyard was planted to Pinot Noir in 2000 but grafted to Tempranillo in 2004. The vines are hand harvested.
After several days of pre-ferment maceration, the fruit is wild fermented in a hand plunged open vat. Post-ferment maceration follows, then the wine is pressed to French oak to mature. Bottling occurs without fining and only light filtration.
Little Dam Tempranillo is one of three of Mount Majura Vineyard's single site Tempranillo wines, produced only in years where the quality and volume allow.
Deep garnet, Mount Majura Vineyard Little Dam Tempranillo is a structured wine, with restrained yet fresh blue fruits and fine but firm tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
